The
third edition of this highly-regarded
‘encyclopaedia’ of Italian achievement in the last
thousand years, contains over 300 new ‘firsts’ (now
totalling over 800) and
has been completely recaste in subject listing, with
each entry numbered for ease of reference.
Among
the new entries are Domenico ‘Nick’ La Rocca who
made the first recording of jazz music in 1917, and
Vespa – the world’s first motor scooter which was
launched in 1946.
Italians
First! It is a tribute to Italian endeavour in all areas
of human activity. In addition, the contents include
chapters on Italian Women, together with Glossary, List
of Authorities and full cross-referenced Index.
"It is indeed remarkable
in just how many fields Italians have been pre-eminent;
scarcely less impressive are Barone's thoroughness and
competitive spirit in recording these feats...It should
be essential browsing for quiz setters, lovers of trivia
and Italophiles."
