4 - Natural
Health
For
thousands of years, man has looked to Nature for the remedies to ease
pain and distress to both mind and body. Then came the nineteenth and
twentieth-century advances in ‘scientific knowledge’, and for a long
time in Western societies our ‘traditional’ remedies and alternative
therapies were largely discarded in favour of the new ‘scientifically
developed’ drugs and applications.
Today,
there is a growing desire amongst all groups of people to
‘rediscover’ our traditional natural pathways to better health,
health cures and general wellbeing.
This
changing attitude does not involve rejecting modern medicine; rather it
is more to do with seeing alternative therapies as complementary to it,
in the hope, consciously or unconsciously, of reactivating Man’s
natural desire to live in greater harmony with Nature, and thereby
himself.
This
series has been developed to help guide people through the process of choosing
and using the major traditional complementary and alternative
therapies, written by recognized, experienced practitioners in each of
their fields.
